Police now say the search is off for a supposed missing swimmer on Lake Erie.

The search was called off because there was no sign of the man or the raft.

Searchers were confident that if the man were on the surface, the search would have located him.

At this time there are no reports of any missing persons from the Port Colborne area...specifically from Elcho Beach.

Police got a call last night saying a man on an air mattress was around 600 feet from shore when onlookers lost sight of him on the water.

Two men on their Sea-Doos went into the water to look for him but came up empty.

The coast guard from Trenton was called in to help NRP and searched through the night into the early hours of this morning.
