Niagara Region & CUPE OK new contract

Covers childcare, transporation, landfill workers

The Region & CUPE have OKed a new contract for 850 workers who take care of everything from our kids to our wastewater.

The 3-year deal freezes wages in year 1.  In year 2 workers will get a 1% bump in salary, 2% in year 3.  Over the life of the contract the cost of the increases is $1.38-million, covering wages & benefits.

The Niagara Region's Treasurer says the contract is "fair to union members, yet reflects the current economic conditions"

Members of CUPE Local 1287 work in administration, childcare, environmental enforcement & laboratory services, landfill operations, social assistance, water & wastewater operations & transportation.
