Hamilton could have a human case of West Nile on its hands.
A woman in her 20 has been flagged by the city's Public Health department as having a "probable case" of the virus. It would be the city's first human case this year.
Human cases of West Nile have been reported this summer in places like Toronto & Halton Region, but so far none in Niagara.
1 mosquito pool in St. Catharines tested positive for the virus in July. There haven't been any cases of West Nile in local birds.
Public Health officials say it's important to guard yourself from mosquitoes which can carry the virus by wearing long sleeves & pants & by using an insect repellent with DEET. They also recommend pouring out any standing water around your yard where mosquitoes can breed.
