Wainfleet fire still burning

8/13/2012

The Wainfleet Bog fire is still burning.

The Aviation and Forest Fire Emergency Services Branch of the Ministry of Natural Resources is currently helping put out the blaze that has been burning for two weeks now.

The fire is in an inaccessible area of the Bog.

FireRanger crews are on the scene and started suppression efforts on Friday.

The three, 4 person crews drove the MNR FireRanger trucks to the site, loaded with supplies and equipment, ready to action the fire.

The FireRanger crews are currently setting up a hose perimeter around the fire, and will then begin working towards the middle.

Additional equipment has also been loaned from local Fire Departments.

The fire is currently smouldering, and has been mapped at approx. 13 hectares.

A water source had been established, and over 10,000 feet of hose had already been laid to the fire.

Today crews continued work by continuing with nozzle work and building a perimeter of hose line around the fire.
