General Motors workers have said yes to a new four year deal.

Workers voted 73 percent in favour of the contract that includes a three thousand dollar bonus as well as lump sum cost of living payments.

Local 199 President Wayne Gates tells 610 CKTB's Tim Denis, 75 percent of production workers and 80 percent of skilled trades workers at the St. Catharines plant voted in favour of the deal.

He admits some workers felt the deal fell short.

Gates notes some local autoworkers who have been travelling to Oshawa for the last decade had hoped they would be able to return to St. Catharines immediately.

Instead, they only received a promise they would return to their home plant by the end of the four year deal.

He also points out by the end of the four year deal, GM workers will have been without a raise for eight years.

The Local 199 President says he would have liked to see some long term guarantees past 2016 that the Big Three automakers are committed to investing in their Canadian plants.
