Fatal car bike crash in Thorold

A 19 year old Campbellville man is dead after being struck while riding a mountain bike on Merritville Highway in Thorold last night around 9.

Police say a car driven by a 24 year old man from Smithvilllle was travelling northbound on the highway , near Decew Road .

At the same time the cyclist was riding his bike southbound on the roadway.

The two collided in the northbound lanes and the 19 year old was thrown from his bike.

He was pronounced dead upon arrival at St. Catharines General hospital.

The driver of the car was not injured.

The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Any witnesses to the accident are asked to call police.
