Highlights from the council table

10/5/2012

Lots of debate at Niagara Regional council last night.

Councillors have decided not to act on a citizen's commitee recommendation their pay be tied to their attendance because of the logistics.

Regional Chair Gary Burroughs pointing out to 610 CKTB's Tim Denis this morning, councillors do not sit on the same number of committees so it would be hard to come up with a formula.

The committee recommended that 7 thousand dollars of councillor's 27 thousand dollar salary be awarded based on how many meetings they attend.

Burroughs also says there was a lively debate on a proposal by Niagara Falls councillor Selena Volpatti to hire an integrity commissioner to make sure the debate around the council table remain civil.

Council voting to ask staff to complile a report on that suggestion.
