It's National Fire Prevention Week

10/9/2012

It's Fire Prevention Week across North America and this year's theme is "Two Ways Out".

Firefighters across the province will be emphasizing the importance of preparing, implementing and practicising a home fire escape plan.

St. Catharines Fire Chief Mark Melanbacher says they will be urging families to come with a home fire escape plan.

He says children are being asked to bug mom and dad to come up with an escape plan and practise the plan so that everyone in their home knows what to do in the event of a fire.

The fire chief pointing out cooking is the number one cause of house fires in Ontario.

He also is asking we take the time this week to check our smoke alarms and make sure they're working.
