DSBN takes a closer look at the future of West Park

10/17/2012

The DSBN's trustees looking at alternate uses for Kernahan and West Park schools both slated for closure.

At a planning committee meeting last night,  staff presented trustees with a study into a proposal  to move the Niagara Academy to West Park in partnership with Brock University.

Cam Hathaway, the board's Planning and Transportation Services superintendant tells 610 CKTB's Tim Denis he met with Brock officials last week.

He says Brock wants to create a centre for innovation and learning at the Academy and likes West Park because of its proximity to the university.

Hathaway adds the planning committee members agreed to accept the proposal from Brock and will allow the university more time to talk with their education faculty about the plan.

He says it also gives the board time to talk to parents of students at the Academy.
