OPP have identified a Canadian border guard shot while on the job at a crossing south of Vancouver.
Sgt. Peter Leon says the victim is Lori Bowcock, who worked as a civilian dispatcher at police headquarters in London, Ont. until this past spring.
Bowcock was struck by a bullet in the neck around 2 p.m. Tuesday and remains in stable condition in hospital.
RCMP say the guard was working at the Douglas border crossing, known better as the Peace Arch crossing, when the shooter entered Canada with Washington plates.
Cpl. Bert Paquet says the first report from the scene was that the man shot the officer in her booth and he then died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
B.C.'s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is treating the file as an attempted murder.
