That advice is especially important tonight with showers in the forecast that will make roadways slick and impair visibility.

It's not just road safety that's important, fire marshals across the province are urging families to include fire safety in their Halloween plans.

Fire officials recommend using battery-operated flameless candles or glow sticks in Halloween decorations, instead of real candles.

They say real candles increase the risk of a fire -- but if real candles are used, keep them away from anything that can burn and always put them out before leaving the room.

They also urge people to ensure electrical outlets are not overloaded with lighting or special effects.
