Farewell Farrell

Thanks a lot John Farrell.  In true Dalton McGuinty fashion, the guy took his ball and went home.  He jumped at the chance to rejoin his beloved Red Sox.  After all, he won a World Series with them as pitching coach.  And when Boston imploded and they fired Valentine, Farrell jumped at the chance to return.  Obviously he used the Blue Jays.  As far as I’m concerned, the guy signed a three year contract and should fulfill his obligation.  The super nice Jays essentially said, ‘that’s okay John, forget about us.  We know you only took the job to eventually get back to Beantown.  Off you go.’

Sure, Farrell wasn’t the second coming of Tommy Lasorda or Sparky Anderson.  The Jays were .500 in his first season and 73-89 this year.  The injury bug bit Toronto.  That wasn’t his fault.  So why did they let him out of his deal?  Because he misses Boston?  So what?  It’s an hour and a half flight.  It also leaks me off that he’s going to another team in the American League east.

Farrell signed a three year deal, and the Jays should have denied his request to be released.  And as much as I’m mad at him for bailing early, I’m more mad at the Jays for letting him go.  But then again this is a team with a rubber spine.
