Stunning news, at least to some. Others would say that in the hierarchy of information that floods into our head, it is neither stunning nor news.

TOMKAT – another portmanteau bites the dust.

Katie Holmes filed for divorce from Tom Cruise on Thursday, June 28, 2012 in New York City while Tom was in Iceland working on the movie Oblivion. As reports say he was “blindsided” and “stunned” by the filing, it seems apparent that oblivion was the only place he could have been. I guess much has happened since he jumped up and down on Oprah's couch. (May 2005 SEE BELOW.)

Statements from both sides are at the present time equally ridiculous. Her lawyer calls it a private family matter, which I suppose is partly true.  Although I always marvel at how celebrities want us to become interested in them as people, when it's convenient to a project of theirs, and then when we actually buy in, they cut us off as soon as it gets interesting.  Meanwhile his rep. says Tom is concentrating on his 3 children. I supposed you CAN do that while filming a movie in Iceland, although this is Tom being scurried away in a helicopter to return to the U.S.

Media is already trying to blame Scientology. (He proposed at the Eiffel Tower and they were married in an Italian castle with a Scientology ceremony under Scientology watch.) Katie is allegedly afraid 6 yr. old Suri will become too involved in the church. I don't buy that, at least not yet.

I have also never bought into the “Tom Cruise is gay” rumor either. Hey, if we need a good “who's gay?” rumor we've got fellow Hubbard-lover John Travolta. That's a good one yet one we may never know an answer to, considering Travolta won't even admit that he's bald.

Katie HAS asked for legal custody of Suri and primary residential custody along with a suitable amount of child support according to TMZ.  Some say filing in New York was a master stroke of strategy designed to make things difficult for Tom.  Tax rates there are so high, he has done all he can to avoid the appearance that they actually live there.

She is also asking for division of property but let's not forget there is a significant pre-nup based on California law.  As speculation has it, the couple are worth about $275M, most of that Cruise's box office. (I would have thought it was more, but I'll bet he gave a lot to the church.)  According to rumored pre-nup terms, she collects $3M for every year they stay married to a max of $33M for 11 years, as well as their Beverly Hills Mansion.

Longer than 11 years and she gets half of everything. They've been married 5 years. All this aside she is said to be seeking much more than that.

I do buy in to the talk that they have lived separate lives for a while now. The last time they were seen together was posing at the Oscars. All of their coupled appearances seemed posed and the only time Katie seems real is when she is pictured with Suri. Speaking of Travolta, I think that's a marriage to watch, along with other break up rumors like Will Smith/Jada Pinkett, Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie, and Gwyneth Paltrow/Chris Martin. LEAVE COMMENTS.
