Bacon Number-Google

Google has unveiled a new function in their “search” category that instantly gives an actor's “Bacon Number.”

A Google spokesperson said that their so-called Bacon project was an interesting challenge for the search engine. For years what they (or any search engine) have been trying to do is to simply find and match pages and sources. As to exactly why they chose this vehicle, the answer is more a “why not.”

FUN, WOW!

As most would know by now Six Degrees of Separation was a 1990 John Guare play eventually made into a 1993 movie starring Will Smith. It's a friend of a friend idea, a notion that any one person in the world is connected to any other person in the world by no more than 5 people, or an eventual 6 degrees. The game Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon was invented based on this concept.

The site Oracle of Bacon has been around since 1996. Google has basically taken the concept and made it available in their search.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS

So...simply go to Google search, type in “Bacon number” and then any actor's name. Hit enter and instantly the number and connection will appear. It's interesting that most Bacon numbers are small...often 2. Hey, that Kevin Bacon has been in a lot of movies, and a lot of different ones too.

Just try it, but try NOT to kill your whole afternoon. LEAVE COMMENTS.
