Dear Kate & Wills: Get Over Yourselves

For the last several days you undoubtedly heard ALL about the topless pictures of Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge and the Missus of William. The famous royal couple can be seen cavorting on a balcony of a mansion in France while on vacation.

According to the editor of French tabloid gossip magazine Closer, the house and balcony are visible from a road that passes in front.

The photos have been re-published by an Irish tabloid and will be shown in an Italian rag, owned by Silvio Berlusconi, whose daughter is editor-in-chief. Some have said that through diplomatic decency the former leader should stop the publication, but his daughter says he cannot interfere in the editorial policies of the magazine. (..and that, like Silvio...is rich!)

As you have heard the Royal Family is seeking to block further publication and is launching a civil suit based on breach of privacy. Closer has implied that of 200 or so photos, there are some that are even more intimate and they chose NOT to publish those (out of respect and taste I assume).

Wills and Kate and the rest of the Royals: Get over yourselves! If it wasn't for the odd scandal hardly anyone would give a damn about you in the first place. Witness the Canadian visit by Edward, the Earl of Wessex, and Sophie, the Epitome of Boredom. A BIG yawn. Your attention and mock shock to this matter, only serves to fuel the fire.

PLUS KATE: I think if I'm a young woman entering a high profile royal marriage in the 21st century, I have about given up the notion that I shall ever be able to go topless in anything that even closely resembles “public.” And if she did (and she did), then so what. THEY'RE MARRIED. They're in love. We sanction the existence of these magazines and then pretend to be ruffled when they cross some invisible line that only one side knew existed.

And...the comparisons to the hounding of Princess Diana are horrible. Certainly they only serve to hurt Wills' feelings and dredge up painful memories. An investigation concluded pursuing paparazzi were only partially responsible. Let's not forget, there was a drunk driver behind the wheel of Di's Mercedes. LEAVE COMMENTS.
