A Film You Might Have Missed

It's a car commercial and it's 8 years old, but this short film has apparently taken on a new life on Tumblr recently.

I watched it not knowing it was from 2004, not that it's timeless, it's just that Robert Downey Jr. and Volvos don't seem to have changed that much.

ROUTE V50

You'll probably say to yourself, “Who's got 12 and a half minutes to watch a video?” If so then maybe schedule it with a cup of coffee for sometime this weekend. All I know is that I was going to watch 2 minutes of it then skip thru the rest, and I ended up watching the whole thing.

It's directed by Stephen Frears, who has a very nice filmography but his most famous movie is likely 2000's High Fidelity starring John Cusack based on the great book by Nick Hornby.

The film itself is sponsored by Volvo, and IS a car commercial as I mentioned. It has a very nice Twilight Zone feel. I was wondering how I could have completely missed this film in its day but then I thought, “Where would I have seen it?” YouTube wasn't founded until 2005, and television wasn't running any 12 minute commercials. No matter, I saw it now.

I'm not sure how I missed this the first time! Reminds me of Red Rock West with Nic Cage. I love Robert Downey Jr. Thanks for the morning vid. :o)
