''Tsunami of Filth''

Some weeks ago the secret life of Jimmy Savile came to light thanks to a British documentary about one of England's most popular radio and TV presenters. Sir Jimmy Savile (he was knighted in1990) passed away last year at age 84.

Known for outlandish clothes and hairstyles, Savile was a staple of the BBC firstly with his show Top of the Pops. An appearance on this show was a crowning achievment for any act, Beatles et al. From 1975 to 1994 he hosted a show called Jim'll Fix It, where he made people's dreams and wishes come true, mostly children. Savile was known for his philanthropy and charity work, again mostly with children and children's hospitals.

He received a Papal knighthood from the Vatican and was a friend to Margaret Thatcher having spent 11 consecutive New Year's eves with the family.

SEX OFFENDER

Recently a documentary (watch below) by BBC TV rival, ITV, exposed Savile as a serial sex offender, a predator of great magnitude. Since the special police have been approached by at least 300 more victims, many saying their were targeted on the premises of the BBC. The BBC is funded by British tax dollars and the head of its governing body called this a “tsunami of filth”.

As with Penn State and Jerry Sandusky, there is now discussion of Mr. Savile's actions and how much may have been known by others of his inner circle. It has been implied that some were complicit in his predatory behavior and turned a blind eye to it. Others wonder how there could be 400 victims over decades without someone saying something, and putting a stop to it.

A retired officer said he had investigated Savile in the 1980's but there was not enough evidence. Savile himself started legal proceedings against the Sun newspaper in 2008 after they linked him to several abuse cases.

This case throws shame on the BBC whose new chief is only weeks into his job. His predecessor, Mark Thompson, is poised to become chief executive of the New York Times. Americans, as we all should be, are very sensitive to “who knew what” right now because of Sandusky and Penn State.

Whether it be Sandusky, Graham James, Boy Scouts of America, the Catholic church, or even Jimmy Savile, what we are learning in these cases is that the silence of shame does nothing to stop these offenders. They must be exposed and I credit the brave men and women who are finally coming forward. We can only shake our head in disgust and pray that those predators out there now can be exposed and caught before they put up the kind of staggering numbers many of them do. LEAVE COMMENTS.

This is the full documentary, but even the first few minutes should give you a good idea of what went on.
