What's next? Poles and pigtails?
A Canadian dance studio is taking some flak for offering pole dancing classes for children. CTV News reports that Twisted Grip Dance & Fitness in British Columbia has a pole dancing class called "Little Spinners" for boys and girls of all ages. Owner Kristy Craig told CTV that she introduced the class because clients wanted it, and so far three girls and a boy have registered, the youngest of whom is five and the oldest about 12. Craig insists there's nothing sexual about the class, which will reportedly teach similar moves as those in the adult classes, telling CBC, "It's pure fitness and strength and fun. I mean kids love climbing trees. They will climb anything."
And if you believe there isn’t anything sexual about this then you’ll BELIEVE anything.
Pole dancing is like lap dancing. Its associated with sex. Nothing wrong with that…as long as you’re an adult. If you’re not an adult…then its creepy and inappropriate. You can rationalize all you want about how healthy it is and how anything that gets our kids moving is a good thing in this age of obesity BUT it’s still encouraging kids to get involved in an activity that they are too young to understand completely.
These excuses are the same ones that parents who dress their preteens in makeup and miniskirts and make them strut on stages, will use. The kids enjoy it. It’s a healthy competition.
Our children have enough problems growing up in this era of 24/7 electronic stimulation. We do these things, we laugh and then we wonder why our little darling’s are hyper sexualized by the time they are 12.
It’s high time we stopped chuckling at stories like this and started calling these people on it.
