Are All Calories Created Equal?

Posted By: Tom McConnell · 5/15/2012 9:45:00 PM

The simple answer is no. Protein, fat, and complex carbs are not the same as simple carbs. Fat does not cause us to be fat, simple carbs do. Basically, by driving the insuiin mechanism it loads up our cells to be fat. Gary Taubes is a health journalist and first wrote about this in 2002 for The New York Times Magazine.

This week, in anticipation of HBO's documentary series The Weight of the Nation, Taubes writes in Newsweek about the research that the documentary fails to bring up. Simply that our obesity epidemic is being driven by simple carbs - i.e. sugar in pop; simple starches in pasta; too many french fries, etc.,. It's not fat that's making us fat, it's simple carbs.

Have some more time on your hands? Watch these two documentaries on how our 21st century diets are kiiling us. The first video is by Dr. Robert Laustig is entitled Sugar, The Bitter Truth. The second shows David Diamond, Ph. D and documents his journey of weight loss and his acceptance of more saturated fat in his diet.

Next, the nutritional consultant we use on the show, Pam Killeen, has tons of information on her website.

Finally, The New York Times Magazine, ten years after first publishing Taubes, recently ran a contest for the best essay on the ethics of eating meat. Here's the winning entry from Jay Bost entitled Give Thanks to Meat.

If you go through all this info, from highly accredited sources, I guarantee you'll change the way you look at food and starting eating healthier sooner rather than later. If you've struggled to lose weight you've probably been eating wrong all these years. But, it's not your fault. You were just following what most so-called experts were stating. Turns out, most experts were wrong. Starting eating right today.
