Two Canadians onboard a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 7-7-7 flight carrying 239 people that went missing near Vietnam have been identified.

The flight manifest identifies the two Canadians as Xiaomo Bai and Muktesh Mukherjee.

An airline spokeswoman says company officials are not able to get in touch with their families but have contacted the Canadian embassy in Malaysia.

Prime Minister Harper has tweeted his condolences to those affected by disappearance of the plane.

Vietnamese air force planes have spotted two large oil slicks close to where the plane went missing.

The air force planes were part of a multi-national search operation launched after Flight M-H-370 fell off radar screens less than an hour after it took off from Kuala Lumpur for Beijing early this morning.

Two-thirds of the missing plane's passengers were from China, while others were from elsewhere in Asia, North America and Europe.
