The state medical examiner's office has revised the death toll from a tornado in an Oklahoma City suburb to 24 people, including seven children. Spokeswoman Amy Elliot said this morning that she believes some victims were counted twice in the early chaos of the storm. Authorities said initially that as many as 51 people were dead, including 20 children. Teams are continuing to search the rubble in Moore, 16 kilometres south of Oklahoma City, after the tornado yesterday afternoon.

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says she'll ensure passage of the provincial budget, avoiding an election. The minority Liberals need the NDP onside to pass the budget, which is a confidence motion. The Progressive Conservatives are pushing for an election and said they'd never support the budget, even before they read it. The Liberals addressed a long list of NDP demands in the budget, but Horwath said she wanted more accountability. The mayor of Niagara Falls, Jim Diodati will be keeping a close eye on what happens at Toronto city hall today regarding the casino debate.City councillors will be voting on a proposed casino for the downtown core today.Councillors are set to hold a debate on the proposed downtown casino but it appears likely that the proposal will be voted down. Even Mayor Rob Ford, who was an outspoken proponent of the project, called the debate ``essentially dead'' last week. A serious crash in Fenwick saw a man airlifted to hospital Tuesday morning.It happened just after 7:30, the vehicle flipped on Highway 20 between Regional Road 24 and Boyle road, trapping the man in his 60's inside.An air ambulance was called in to get the man to hospital with critical injuries.

A new report finds fewer Canadian kids are commuting by walking or biking. Active Healthy Kids Canada released its annual Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth today and it assigned a ``D'' grade for active transportation. Walking or biking to and from school can add up to 45 extra minutes a day of physical activity compared to travelling by car, train or bus. In Canada, a survey found while 58 per cent of parents walked to school when they were children, only 28 per cent of their own kids are doing so today. ...

A massive tornado tore through a suburb of Oklahoma City Monday, killing at least 51 people, including children.
The twister touched down in Moore, OK, just outside of the capital.
The tornado, ranked by the National Weather Service as an EF-4 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, had sustained winds of 320 km/h. It flattened entire neighbourhoods, including two schools, trapping children in the rubble. At one of the schools, all of the children have been accounted for. At the other, Plaza Towers Elementary School, several of the students have been pulled out alive but the rescue operation continues.

Ray Manzarek, one of the founding members of 60's rock group The Doors, has died.
Manzarek died at a clinic in Germany from bile duct cancer.
Along with Jim Morrison, Manzarek founded the group in California. It went on to become one of the most successful rock bands in history, despite the death of Morrison in 1971. He briefly served as the band's vocalist but The Doors eventually split apart.
Manzarek continued to remain active in the music industry, playing in several bands, producing others, writing and working on films. He in one of the more notable keyboard players in ...

Sometimes it does not pay to be a good samaritan.A man walking on Division Street in Welland last night at around ten o'clock, stopped to help another man slumped over his bike, who appeared to be having difficulty breathing.He helped the the cyclist walk the bike, but when they reached the entrance of the Market Square, the man who was apparently feeling ill put the other guy in a choke hold from behind.The good samaritan passed out, and was robbed of cash.Detectives from the Central Region Detective Office are investigating. Gander, Newfoundland has broken its record for the greatest snowfall in May that has been on the books since 1945. The previous record was 29 centimetres. But Environment Canada says 54 centimetres fell in Gander on Saturday and Sunday and that the total climbs to 66 centimetres if you include the snow that melted before the brunt of the storm hit.

Mexican media are reporting that a Canadian and an American have gone missing from the resort city of Puerto Vallarta. The online newspaper Noticias PV says Diego Hernandez, a Canadian martial arts instructor, and his friend Craig Silva vanished on May 8. The paper says Puerto Vallarta's director of public safety, Silvestre Chavez, didn't learn of the men's disappearance until five days later and has launched an investigation.
