The world's tallest flower is about to bloom in Niagara Falls.
The Niagara Parks Commission has 2 Titan Arums in their Floral Showhouse, just south of the Horseshoe Falls.
Jane Cornelius with the Showhouse tells 610 CKTB's Tim Denis the tallest one ever measured was over 10ft from the base of the flower bud to the tip.
The giant bell-shaped flowers are so heavy, the team at the Parks needed to use a front-end loader to move them into their current home in the Showhouse's entryway. The bulb-like corms the flowers grow from weigh 150lbs.
The Titan Arum is indigenous to Indonesia & is pretty rare, at least in botanical gardens.
The flowers at the Niagara Parks are expected to bloom in 3-5 weeks & will only stay open for a few days.
You can track the Niagara Parks' Titan Arums' growth at their blog.
