Toronto mayor Rob Ford: ''I do not use crack cocaine''

Rob Ford has broken his silence over an alleged video showing the Toronto mayor smoking crack cocaine. Speaking at Toronto City Hall, Ford denied the drug use allegations. 'I do not use crack cocaine, nor am I an addict of crack cocaine" As for the video, seen only by a couple of reporters at the Toronto Star and the editor of the website Gawker, Ford would not comment. ''I cannot comment on a video that I've never seen or does not exist," said the mayor. His statement went on to slam the media and those who have judged him ''without any evidence.'' ... read more

Zip line proposal review in Niagara Falls postponed

Niagara Parks Chair Janice Thompson has postponed a scheduled review of the proposed zip-line that was scheduled for this afternoon at the Legends on the Niagara Golf Complex.After two public information sessions were held on the zip-line concept earlier this year, a request for qualifications and a formal request for proposals was issued by the NPC.A presentation was to be given to the public by the preferred proponent, selected by the commission during what it says was a "fair, open and transparent" procurement process.At the moment the Thompson Point and Dufferin Islands spot looks like the preferred ... read more

Clear connection between the two suspects in Tim Bosma slaying emerges

Canadian may have been responsible for bridge collapse in Washington State

The Washington State Patrol has confirmed that an Edmonton-area trucker was at the wheel of a semi that struck a bridge on a busy interstate highway, sending part of the span thundering into a river below.    The patrol says William Scott, a 41-year-old resident of Spruce Grove, was hauling a large load Thursday night and hit a girder of the bridge over the Skagit River on Interstate 5, about 100 kilometres north of Seattle.    Sgt. The Bahamas Humane Society wants justice for the Ganzdas

Miracle no one killed in Washington State bridge collapse

A section of a major highway bridge linking Seattle with British Columbia and the rest of the Pacific Northwest region collapsed Thursday evening, dumping a handful of vehicles and people into a river.    The Washington State Patrol said there were no deaths, and three people were rescued and taken to hospitals.    A complete span of the four-lane Interstate 5 bridge, more than half a century old,  collapsed about halfway between Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia, Trooper Mark Francis said.    Francis said he did not know what caused the collapse, which came at the start of one of ... read more

Charges will be upgraded in a case of alleged elder abuse in St. Catharines

A St. Catharines man who is facing attempted murder charges will see that charge upgraded.This after his 76 year old mother died in a Hamilton hospital from injuries she sustained last Wendesday night in her Geneva Street apartment.Police were called out to the complex after reports of a woman yelling for help.Yesterday her 52 year old son Richard Rogers was arrested by police.Niagara Regional Police say the suspect will appear in court next week and the charge against him will be upgraded. read more

Man rescued from old Welland Canal in Merritton

A 45-year old man suffered minor injuries after slipping into the old Welland Canal in Merritton on Thursday.Emergency officials were called to the Merritt Trail on Oakdale Avenue just after 12 noon after receiving a call from a father and son who heard the cries of help from the victim.Fire officials were able to pull the man to safety about 30 minutes later.The victim suffered injuries to both his feet, but nothing serious according to NRP Constable Derek Watson. read more
