Niagara IceDogs Defenceman Dougie Hamilton named OHL Defenceman of the Year

Niagara IceDogs defenceman Dougie Hamilton is the OHL Defenceman of the Year.

The third year IceDog, and 2011 Boston Bruins 1st Round - 9th overall pick, averaged over a point a game with the Dogs' this season, scoring 17 goals and adding 55 assists for 72 points in just 50 games.

Hamilton, who also had a plus/minus rating of +37, becomes the first ever IceDog to win the Max Kaminsky Award as OHL Defenceman of the Year.

Hamilton received an impressive 80 of a maximum 95 points in the voting process ahead of Scott Harrington of the London Knights who finished in second place with 36 voting points, and Cody Ceci of the Ottawa 67’s who finished in third place with 28 voting points.

Other notable winners of the Max Kaminsky Trophy include Al MacInnis (Kitchener 1982-83), Chris Pronger (Peterborough 1992-93), and Brian Campbell (Ottawa 1998-99).

Hamilton and the rest of the Niagara IceDogs open the OHL Finals Thursday night in London.
