5 hurt in spectacular Welland crash

2-year-old's stroller hit

7/30/2012

A 2-year-old is among those hurt in a spectacular crash in Welland.

A Toyota Corolla slammed into the back of a Buick Rendezvous on Thorold Rd late Sunday afternoon.

The Corolla careened onto the sidewalk, hitting 2 women walking by & the stroller they were pushing with a toddler inside.  The car landed on its roof in the driveway of Centennial Secondary School.  The SUV wound up on the opposite side of the road.

The pedestrians were rushed to Hamilton General Hospital with serious injuries.  The toddler was treated & sent home.  The drivers of the car & SUV were treated for minor injuries at Welland's hospital.

Acting Niagara Regional Police Staff Sergeant Jeff Inch tells 610 CKTB News though investigators aren't sure yet how fast the cars involved were going, speed was a factor. He adds the Toyota was definitely going faster than the Buick.

Police want to talk to anyone who saw the crash. Call the Traffic Reconcstruction Unit at 905-688-4111 x5550

It isn't clear if any charges will be laid.

"It isn't clear if any charges will be laid."....well i sure in heck hope so. The driver of the speeding car should be charged. WTH was that driver thinking? really...speeding in a school zone. Why are people in such a hurry these days? Slow the hell down people, because of this person who was in a hurry to get to no where, a toddler had to spend the night without their mother. Hope the pedestrians recover quickly. My prayers are with them.

I live 2 minutes away from the scene but wasn't home when this happened, but i walk past Centennial School often with my children, the thought that that could have been me and my children is scary. Again, my prayers are with the mother and the other pedestrian and i do hope the driver that is at fault does get charged, there was no reason at all to be speeding, the driver is a selfish idiot.
