LCBO plans expansion

70 new stores in 2 years

8/3/2012

The LCBO is growing.

They plan to add about 70 new stores across the province in the next 2 years.  It isn't clear where the new shops are going up.

Thorold has been fighting to bring an LCBO back to the city since their lone outlet on Pine St closed in 2009.

The LCBO is in the midst of its most successful year in history, sales are up almost 5% to $4.71-billion.

A spike in the sale of Ontario craft beer accounts for a lot of that increase.  Their numbers are up 45 %.  VQA wine sales are up 9%, accounting for $106-million.

Could the increase in LCBO stores be because of talk to put beer and wine in corner stores ?? Sure smells fishy if the Ontario Gov't has a hand in it...
