Niagara Falls mayor fed up with arena road holdup

8/14/2012

Jim Diodati isn't patient anymore.

The mayor of Niagara Falls is fed up with the see-sawing between the Ministry of the Environment &chemical company Cytec that's holding up construction of a road to hook up to the Gale Centre.

The ministry says they're waiting on information from Cytec which used to run a chemical plant where the arena now sits.  The company says the ministry has what it needs.

The mayor says, enough with the finger-pointing.  Diodati tells 610 CKTB's Joe Cahill he'd like to get all the parties in a room & lock the door until the matter is settled.

The city has volunteered to have the area scraped cleaned.  Diodati says that would wipe out the need for a risk assessment.

Diodati underlines that the plans & money for the stretch of road are ready.  He says it was supposed to be built only a little after the area itself.

The project is meant to extend Thorold Stone Rd past where it bends into Stanley Ave.  Diodati says it will give drivers direct access to the arena, rather than have them steer around "a big black hole".

Hey in the meantime, why doesn't the Mayor redo Second Ave and the sewers which is just a few streets over from the arena? We've been patiently waiting for roughly 3 or 4 years for our street to be done while watching every other street around us get worked on. Apparently they can't find the money to redo the sewers and the road on Second Avenue even though with every downpour we get it floods at the end of the street. We've heard enough excuses over the years from the previous Mayor and now the current one. Let's go already!
