Tory Garden City MP Rick Dykstra says one joke came across his desk that left him far from laughter.
In a springtime Liberal publication, is a joke about the assasination of Stephen Harper and his wife Laureen.
Dykstra was so angry, he issued a news release, pointing the finger at St. Catharines federal Liberal candidate Walt Lastewka.
The blame left Lastewka gobsmacked.
Lastewka tells CKTB joke was an item was in the Liberal Riding Association newsletter, penned by the president.
Lastewka the joke has nothing to do with him or his campaign.
Lastewka accused Dykstra of smear politics, trying to dampen the mood, as Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion visited St. Catharines for a barbecue and town hall.
Dion admits the joke was inappropriate and in poor taste.
But he says he is disappointed in the road taken by the Tories.
Dion says Canadians deserve a leadership that is honest and respectful.
The author of the joke, Riding President Jane Cornelius, has issued an apology.
