It was Jan. 12/10 when an earthquake, magnitude 7.0 to 7.3 hit an already fragile and impoverished Haiti.  Several immediate aftershocks added to the devastation.

Many are dying because of treatable injuries and lack of medical supplies.

A homeless girl recovers near a tent city.

It is estimated that over 3 million people have been affected with casualties that could reach 100,000.

Wednesday, Jan. 20/10 an aftershock measuring 6.1 once again rocked the land.

Supply delivery has been slow and cumbersome leading to scuffles over food.

Tiger Woods was involved in a car accident outside his Orlando area mansion Friday morning, Nov. 27/09 at approx. 2:25.  It is not known for certain why he was leaving his home or where he was going at that time of morning.

His 2009 Cadillac SUV hit a fire hydrant and a neighbor's tree.  TMZ released these exclusive photos.

It is reported that Tiger was traveling under 30 mph and therefore his airbags did not deploy.  It is also reported that he was knocked unconscious and his wife ran out, broke the rear window with a golf club and got him out of the vehicle.  When police arrived he was lying on the street with his wife hovering over him.  It is reported he was dressed only in shorts and a T-shirt with no shoes.

Florida Highway Patrol did not report the incident til 12 hours later. 


Initial reports had the golfer in hospital with serious injuries but it was later discovered that he suffered a cut lip, facial lacerations, and was treated and released from hospital.

On Tues., Dec. 1st, the FHP held a press conference stating their investigation concluded that Mr. Woods was solely responsible for the accident and would be issued a careless driving citation.  This could bring a fine of $164 and a possible 4 demerit points on his license.  They said there was not enough evidence to pursue any further subpoenas, that no domestic violence claims were made and the case was closed in their opinion.
 

The rumor mill has it that a domestic dispute over Tiger's infidelity (as reported the previous week in the National Enquirer)  led to Elin scratching Tiger's face.  As he left the house she chased after him with a golf club and smashed the vehicle.  This distracted Tiger and caused the accident.  These are the persistent rumors. A woman named Rachel Uchitel is named as the "other" woman.  She is pictured below in an iconic post 9-11 photo as she searched for her boyfriend.  Also pictured is Rachel arriving in LA and meeting with her lawyer Gloria Allred.  The two issued a statement denying the affair and implying further legal action.  A scheduled press conference called by Allred and Uchitel was abruptly cancelled on Thursday and it was alleged Rachel was the subject of the Woods family argument that led to the crash. 


By mid week another woman came forward, Jaimee Grubbs, a former reality show contestant on "Tool Academy" saying she had a 31 month affair with Tiger that began as a chance meeting at a Las Vegas nightclub in April of 2007, 2 months before the birth of Tiger and Elin's first child.   


US Weekly released a taped message allegedly sent by Tiger to Jaimee on Nov. 24/09, 2 days before the big incident.

After the above story broke, Tiger issued a statement on his website apologizing for his transgressions and once again asking for privacy.

It is rumored Elin wants to rewrite their prenup.  $20M was the amount of the original pre-marriage agreement and by weeks end some sites reported Elin received a one-time immediate $5M from Tiger and may get between $55-$60M to stay with Tiger and keep up appearances for a minimum 2 years.

AND THEN THERE WAS...the unfortunate timing of the cover of January's Golf Digest.  This is the actual issue, NOT a parody or joke, obviously set up way before Tiger became news for all the wrong reasons.


As of Dec. 7/09 it has been reported Elin has left the family home and living in another home within the gated community.  No word on the kids.

The number of women Tiger is alleged to have "hooked up" with outside of his marriage...


Further drama on Tuesday, Dec. 8/09 at 2:36 a.m. when a blond woman was taken from Tiger Woods home on advanced life support.  She was seen receiving oxygen on a stretcher.  The woman was Elin's mother, Barbro Holmgren and she has since been treated and released for what was thought to be food-poisoning.


Later Tuesday Pepsico announced it was dropping the Tiger Gatorade brand.  A trade publication had that story 3 days before the "accident" so it may have been unrelated to the bad PR and more about waning sales.  Either way, it's not so much that Tiger will miss the $15-20M a year, but in the past, 5-6 other sponsors would have been lining up to brand their beverages, but now...?  Not likely.

- The National Enquirer caught Tiger in a steamy affair 2 years ago, and made a deal to keep it quiet if Tiger did a rare cover shoot for their sister publication, Men's Health magazine.

- Tiger's LA law firm wins an injunction against the UK tabloid press barring them from publishing any nude photos of Tiger, while not admitting that any actually exist.

- Tiger and Elin are moving to an island off Stockholm and leaving behind media, golf, endorsements and this entire life to try and fix theirs.

- Elin's mind is made up, she will divorce Tiger according to most reports and move to that island in Sweden with the kids.  Elin is negotiating an endorsement deal with Puma, a Nike rival.

- Elin makes a point of being photographed outside the home, pumping gas, without a wedding ring.  This is the first photo of any of the Woods since the accident.


- Tiger's high school girlfriend speaks to gossip media and says Tiger would call her crying because his dad was with another woman cheating on his mom.  This broke Tiger up according to Dina Parr, who said she would just sit there and listen to him and try and be there for him.  (*That's right, Tiger dated a woman named Parr).  Here's the two in happier times.


- Tag Heuer watches drops Tiger as a spokesperson.


- Jessica Simpson threatens legal action after a tabloid story links her to Tiger romantically.  She stated that the two had met, posed for a photo and that was it.


- Some say that Tiger is holed-up in a sex addiction clinic in the Sonoran Desert in Arizona.

- Tiger was also linked to controversial Canadian doctor Anthony Galea, who performed legal, but controversial, blood-spinning techniques on Woods on at least four occasions this year in an attempt to heal a troublesome knee. 


Galea is facing various charges regarding allegations of steroids and human growth hormone and has retained lawyer Brian Greenspan.   

Tiger's agent at IMG is Mark Steinberg.  According to an IMG insider who works with Mark and got this information from him, here's the gist of what happened on Thanksgiving.
 
On Thanksgiving Day, after he and Elin and the family had Turkey Dinner, Tiger spent the rest of the afternoon on the couch watching football and texting Rachel. After he received and sent text message back and forth to Rachel, he would clear his message box to destroy the evidence. At some point during the afternoon texting session, one of Tiger's Orlando buds called him to see if he wanted to get together at the Clubhouse to play poker with the guys. Tiger agreed and left the house around 7:30 to go play poker. He left behind his cell phone....and one message he had forgot to delete from Rachel.

When Tiger returned home around 11:30 -12 that night, Elin confronted him about the text message she had found on his phone along with some photos.  A heated discussion ensued. Tiger told Elin that she was reading too much in to it. Tiger went upstairs to change into his gym shorts and t-shirt, came back downstairs were Elin confronted him, again. Tiger gave her the same story as before and sat down in a chair in the living room.

Elin sat across from him. She urged Tiger to just come clean. Tiger stuck to his story and denied everything. At one point Tiger turned away to look at the TV, and as he turned back, Elin, enraged, hit him on the right side of the face with the head of a 9 - iron. When she struck Tiger, she put a huge gash in the right side of his face next to his nose (causing his nose to bruise some), virtually knocked out two of his upper teeth, and broke the bone on the upper right side.

Tiger ran down the hallway, out of the house to the garage (explaining why he had on no shoes) followed by Elin swinging the golf club. Tiger hopped into the Escalade and tried to leave. As we know Elin knocked out the windows in the Escalade in the process as well as doing considerable damage in the hallway.

When Tiger crashed, Elin panicked and was not sure what to tell the police (which is why there are two conflicting stories from her). When this happened, Elin immediately called Mark Steinberg to tell him what happened, and Mark told Elin to tell him what hospital they were going to, and he would meet them there.

If you remember FHP kept showing up at Isleworth to talk to Tiger, and was told by another attorney, hired by Tiger for PR reasons, that Tiger was not ready to talk. This is why.

As amazing as it may seem, Tiger was in Phoenix. Tiger was originally transported to the hospital in Orlando with Elin in the ambulance where they were met by Mr. Steinberg. Tiger was taken in for X-Rays, etc. to assess the damage. The doctors told Steinberg there was not much they coukd do to repair the teeth and the gash, but did know a cosmetic dentist and plastic surgeon in Phoenix who could make Tiger look as if nothing happened. Tiger told Steinberg to get the jet ready and he and Steinberg flew to Phoenix to see the surgeon. The resulting procedures were more intense than what everyone had expected which meant Tiger was in PHX longer than expected. Tiger and Steinberg did not arrive back in Orlando until either late last Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

Since arriving back in Orlando, Tiger and Elin have been in intense marriage conseling sessions (up to 6 to 7 hours a day) every day! Both Tiger and Elin have told the counselors they love each other, and want to make the marriage work. The reports you are reading on TMZ and RadarOnline are about 30% accurate at best according to Mark.

Tiger has not returned to his house at Isleworth since the day of the accident except for the therapy sessions. IMG has enlisted the assistance of one of its most recognized sports figures, and Tiger has taken up residence in his neighborhood - Bay Hill. Because of the high regard in which Tiger holds him and based on his public persona when he was at the height of his game, the person IMG contacted was Arnold Palmer. He has agreed to intervene with Tiger. IMG is convinced that if anyone can get through to Tiger, Mr. Palmer may be the only person who can.

As to other rumors, my source claims that the moving trucks being shown on TMZ and RadarOnline are moving out pictures and furniture which was damaged during their Thanksgiving Day argument - not because of Elin moving out. Yes, Elin has retained a divorce attorney, but has not filed any papers. As of yesterday, she had no intention on doing so.

Tiger has not made any public appearances or statements due to the surgery and plastic surgery he had in PHX. It will be about another month if not more before he gets in front of a camera. Yes, Tiger is hitting golf balls late at night at Bay Hill out of their teaching center (which is equipped with lights). In regards to Tiger's boat being in Palm Beach this week, along with Rachel; that part is true. However, Tiger is not on the boat, is not in Palm Beach, and Rachel is not on the boat. Her parents live 6 blocks from where the boat is, but that is it.

On Dec. 31/09 AT&T announced it was no longer sponsoring Tiger Woods.  Although they did not use his image often, their logo was on Tiger's golf bag and the company said they would continue to sponsor their national PGA event. 

No reasons were given and there was no word on how much the deal might have been worth.

On Jan 5/10 the Vanity Fair cover was unveiled which included Annie Leibowitz's never before seen photos.  There is a contention that Elin has been bragging while on vacation in the Alps, that she received $300M and has hired a private investigator to look into ALL of Tiger's finances so that she has a proper $figure to take to a court.

TIGER AT SEX REHAB CLINIC???

Tiger Woods has been photographed (we think) for the first time since his public disgrace - at a rehab clinic in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Unshaven and dressed in a scruffy hooded sweatshirt and baseball cap, Woods is having intensive therapy at a Mississippi clinic for sex addiction in a desperate bid to save his marriage. 

But reports have now emerged that he has also managed to upset his fellow residents at the 24-bed clinic.

While they share accommodation, Woods has his own private cottage, which was renovated at a cost of more than $115,000 before he moved in.

And while they have to clean their own rooms and toilets, make beds, plan meals and attend group sessions, he has maid service and one-on-one counselling.

An insider at the clinic in Hattiesburg said: "When Tiger enters one of the public areas, other patients have been told they have to leave the room."

The $60,000 Gentle Path program is led by Dr Patrick Carnes (below), one of America's top experts on sexual addiction.

A source said: "Originally Tiger planned to go to a clinic in Arizona but when it became known he was going into sex addiction therapy he decided on Hattiesburg - thinking it would be easier to keep it secret there.

"Tiger has got a rough road in there if he treats the therapy seriously. Patients learn humility and spirituality.

"It 's designed to change their personalities and do away with the cause of their addictions."

LETTERMAN EXTORTION CASE

David Letterman said on Thursday(Oct 1/09) he was the victim of a $2 million extortion plot by a man who threatened to write a screenplay about Letterman having affairs with employees. (image below rendered from show video of Dave explaining story)


In a press conference held by Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau Friday morning, prosecutors identified the suspect in the plot as CBS News producer Robert "Joe" Halderman (below)  and outlined the case against him but declined to comment on his possible motives. (TMZ is reporting that Halderman was in debt including child support payments.)

Morgenthau said that Halderman, a 48 Hours-Mystery producer, had been charged with attempted grand larceny between the period of Sept. 9 and Sept. 30.

The D.A. said that Halderman waited outside Letterman's Manhattan apartment Sept. 9 at 6 a.m. to give him a package and say that he needed a "large chunk of money." He was hoping to sell a "screenplay treatment" and told Letterman that his life was about to collapse around him.

Halderman allegedly attempted to extort $2 million from Letterman, 62, in exchange for keeping quiet about sexual activity between the Late Show host and female employees of his program.

One of the women at the center of the case is Stephanie Birkitt, Letterman's former assistant, according to the search warrant obtained by Fox5 in New York. The warrant says Birkitt was Halderman's girlfriend. Insiders at Letterman say they DID have a relationship and that she lived with Dave but all this ended long before Dave had his child in 2003.  The timing of Dave's affairs in relation to his other commitments is cloudy as this point.  Birkitt is pictured below as part of a bit on the Letterman show.

The warrant says that the package Halderman sent Letterman contained copies of parts of a diary and correspondence belonging to Birkitt.

At the arraignment, Friday (Oct 2/09) at 2:15 p.m., the Emmy-nominated producer plead not guilty. His lawyer, Gerald Shargel (below right) made the talk show rounds Monday morning (Oct 5) and implied that were holes in Letterman's version of the story and that he was looking forward to cross examining Dave on the stand.

It has further been reported that Letterman's lawyers met with the 48 Hrs. producer 3 times, wore a wire and recorded conversations of extortion attempts.  The check they gave him was designed to bounce and he was arrested after trying to deposit the check.  Shargel disputes some of these claims.

He quoted a note as saying: "I know that you do some terrible, terrible things and I can prove that you do these terrible things."

"Sure enough, contained in the package was stuff to prove that I do terrible things," Letterman added.

The 62-year-old, who was recently married, said that after consulting his attorney, he arranged to meet the man who said he planned to write a screenplay and a book about "all the terrible stuff" Letterman did unless he was paid off.

"The creepy stuff was that I have had sex with women who work for me on this show," Letterman told a stunned audience, which seemed unsure how to react to the story, laughing and applauding at times and exclaiming at others.

"My response to that is, yes I have," Letterman said. "Would it be embarrassing if it were made public? Perhaps it would, especially for the women."

"It's been a very bizarre experience. I feel like I need to protect these people. I need to certainly protect my family. I need to protect myself. I hope to protect my job," he said.

Letterman said he went to the Manhattan District Attorney's office. "They said, 'Whoa, hello, this is blackmail,'" Letterman said.

An investigation led to an arrest earlier on the Thursday. As part of the investigation, Letterman said he handed over a "phony" check for $2 million to the individual.  Dave joked that it was one of those big over-sized checks.

There were no details on the identity of the suspect from the District Attorney's office or from Letterman himself.

"The employee has been suspended pending the results of the investigation," CBS said. "Mr. Letterman addressed the issue during the show's broadcast this evening, and we believe his comments speak for themselves."

Letterman, who was married once before, is intensely private, and is rarely photographed with his family. He married longtime companion Regina Lasko in March. They have a son born in 2003.  Lasko did work on the show at one time but no longer does.

 

Letterman started Thursday's broadcast with his regular monologue, which included references to the infidelity of politicians. Dave will not be taping a show Friday as his Friday show was also taped Thursday.

MONDAY'S SHOW (Oct 5/09)

Letterman arrived on stage Monday to applause and cheers from his studio audience. After drinking it in, he grinned sheepishly and inquired, with a mock stammer, "Did your, did your weekend just fly by?"

On the "Late Show," Letterman noted the cool fall weather, reporting, "It's chilly outside my house; chilly INSIDE my house."

Then he cautioned the audience, "This is only phase one of the scandal. Phase two: Next week I go on 'Oprah' and sob."

After pausing for the audience's sympathetic laughter, he went on: "I mean, I'll be honest with you folks — right now, I would give anything to be hiking on the Appalachian Trail."

"I got into the car this morning," he added, "and the navigation lady wasn't speaking to me. Ouch."

Martin Short, making an unannounced appearance, playfully plopped himself in Martin's lap.

"You spend one more minute on his lap, you're gonna get blackmailed," Letterman quipped.

APOLOGY

Dave said on Monday his wife has been "horribly hurt" by revelations of his sexual affairs exposed in an extortion plot against him and he apologized to staff of his popular late-night talk show.

He said in the taping of his Monday show that he will try to patch things up with Regina, whom he married in March after dating for more than 20 years. The two have a 5-year-old son, Harry.

"She has been horribly hurt by my behavior, and when something happens like that, if you hurt a person and it's your responsibility, you try to fix it," Letterman told audiences, according to a statement from his company, Worldwide Pants.

"And at that point, there's only two things that can happen: either you're going to make some progress and get it fixed, or you're going to fall short and perhaps not get it fixed, so let me tell you folks, I got my work cut out for me."

He said he was "terribly sorry that I put the staff in that position. Inadvertently, I just wasn't thinking ahead ... my thanks to the staff for, once again, putting up with something stupid I've gotten myself involved in."

MICHAEL BRYANT/CYCLIST STORY

Ontario's former attorney general was charged with criminal negligence causing death after a fatal collision that occurred in Toronto's Yorkville district on Monday night. (Aug. 31/09) Michael Bryant was held in custody overnight for questioning inside the Traffic Services unit on Hanna Avenue.


Bryant, 43, has also been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death. He is to appear in court on Oct. 19.  To avoid the appearance of "conflict of interest" prosecutors will have to be brought in from out of province as Bryant oversaw these legal areas in his role as AG.

He left Tuesday afternoon, accompanied by his lawyer and made a brief, emotional statement to the media.

He asked the media to respect his family's need for distance and privacy for the next few days and said he will not be making further comments on the incident.

News cameras at the scene of the accident captured the former politician in the back seat of a cruiser.

The 33-year-old cyclist later died. 

Witnesses told police that at one point the cyclist hung onto the driver's side of the car, (reports say the top was down on the convertible) but eventually fell off near Avenue Road and suffered severe head injuries. The driver of the car continued on but stopped a short distance away at the Park Hyatt hotel, located at the northwest corner of Bloor and Avenue.  Some reports also place a female passenger in the car.

Sgt. Tim Burrows said at a news conference that Bryant was one of several people who called 911 to report the incident.  Police also said alcohol was not a factor.

"(He) was not in any way trying to evade or elude our investigation," he said.

Burrows said there are three parts of the incident that police are investigating. The first part is the report of an altercation between the victim and the driver. Burrows said that shortly after there was a minor collision between the cyclist and the vehicle.

After that, tensions escalated between the two and ended when the cyclist grabbed on to the car and held on, even as the car mounted the curb, hitting several objects in its path.

The cyclist was rushed to hospital but he was pronounced dead at a local trauma center shortly after 11 p.m.  Friends identified him as Darcy Allan Sheppard.

The incident remains under investigation by members of Traffic Services.  The bicycle involved is seen near Avenue and Bloor surrounded by police tape.

Burrows said they have received a number of reports from witnesses who were in the area and that they have answered many questions that investigators had about the crash.  Parts of the altercation were caught on surveillance videos.

However, police are still looking to speak with anyone who was in the area -- along Bloor Street, from Church Street all the way to Avenue Road -- between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Monday.

They are asked to call Traffic Services investigators at 416-808-1900.

Bike couriers in Toronto have already staged protests at Avenue Rd. and Bloor and plan others.  The debate of bike lanes, bike safety, traffic aggression, et al, will dominate the discussions in days to come.

Less than an hour before his path would fatally cross that of former Ontario attorney general Michael Bryant, Darcy Allan Sheppard was sitting in the back of a police cruiser.

On Monday night, he showed up at the rundown building near Jarvis and Gerrard Sts. After eight days of sobriety, he had been drinking. Police said they were called. When officers arrived shortly after 9 p.m., they told Sheppard, 33, to leave and not come back.

"He had a relapse," said Jordana Maxwell, who also lives at the apartment. "He came to us, because we're his family. I said, 'Let him come back upstairs.' The officer said, 'No, he needs to go home.' I said, 'He can't make it home, he's intoxicated. He cannot ride a bike.' We begged them. They said, 'He will not go back upstairs.' And they put him on the road."

For their part, the police said they had heard Sheppard might have been drunk but they wouldn't discuss the issue until the results of toxicology tests are available.

From the apartment, the father of four headed toward Yorkville.

By 9:45 p.m., Sheppard was cycling west along the stretch of Bloor St. W. often called the Mink Mile. After passing the intersection of Bloor and Bay Sts., Sheppard collided with Bryant's black convertible Saab. (Mink Mile pictured in daylight)

Despite the evening chill, the Saab's top was down. Sheppard and Bryant began jawing at each other. Bryant's 42-year-old wife, prominent entertainment lawyer Susan Abramovitch, was in the passenger seat. The couple, who met while working as clerks at the Supreme Court of Canada, were celebrating their 12th anniversary.

In one published report, a witness recalled seeing sparks flying from Sheppard's cycling shoes as he skidded on the road alongside the car.

Within seconds, the westbound car had crossed over into the eastbound lanes of Bloor St. Construction workers laying pipe on the stretch of road gaped as the car swerved toward them. It was dark. Many couldn't see Sheppard clinging to the vehicle. All of them said they could hear Bryant screaming.

"The car was riding right up against the sidewalk where there were trees and posts and newspaper boxes. The tires were screeching," said witness Josh Harlan.

"Suddenly it was clear to me whoever was dragging on the side of the car was in mortal danger. It was like something out of a gangster movie."

Several witnesses said it looked like the driver was trying to brush the cyclist off his car using the roadside objects as bludgeons. The first thing Sheppard struck was a small tree. Then he slammed into a grey mail collection box. Sheppard fell from the car. During the collision, he was thrown under the Saab's rear wheels.  (Mailbox now has "bike lanes" sticker as a vigil is maintained.)

The Saab continued along Bloor St. for a short distance. Then Bryant turned right onto Avenue Rd. and made a quick left into the driveway of the Park Hyatt Hotel. Bryant phoned 911. Police were on the scene at 9:50 p.m.

Bryant has surrendered his passport, is not allowed to leave Ontario and forbidden from driving pending the trial.  He has proclaimed his innocence and hired prominent lawyer Marie Henein (below) to defend him.  She successfully defended controversial hockey coach David Frost last year.


Henein has hired independent investigators to reconstruct the evening's events.  Reporters looking in to the case back up the claim that neither Mr. Bryant or his wife consumed any alcohol while out celebrating their 12th anniversary.  There was a modest College St. dinner with iced-tea, a walk on the Boardwalk in the Beaches, and a later stop for pastries and water.

Allegations of preferential treatment for Mr. Bryant were voiced as he did not have to attend a bail hearing and was allowed a clean up and change of clothes before leaving jail the next day (as seen below.)  Those allegations were refuted by authorities.


For his part Mr. Sheppard has been portrayed as a man with a troubled past including 56 outstanding warrants in Alberta, mostly for cheque fraud and property crime.  After a memorial in Toronto, Mr. Sheppard was returned to Edmonton for burial.
