A St. Catharines man has been fined a thousand dollars for not having a working carbon monoxide alarm installed in his east end home.
Barry John Cavanagh pleaded guilty last month for failing to have a carbon monoxide detector outside a main floor bedroom.
St. Catharines Fire Chief Dave Wood says officials are seeing too many homes and apartments without the CO2 detectors during inspections and following emergency calls.
Wood says carbon monoxide poisoning is the leading cause of accidental poisoning in Canada, adding it's the law to have the devices in your home.
Fire code violations relating to carbon monoxide alarms could result in fines ranging from $295 where a ticket is issued to $50,000 for individuals and up to $100,000 for
corporations.
