Some good news for people in Niagara looking for a new family doctor.
Niagara's Family Physician Recruiter Jill Croteau says 11 new doctors will be coming to the region this year.
"Some have taken over existing practices already, and we'll see a few more start in the fall."
She says in 2017 - 2018 the region lost 34 family physicians due to retirement or people leaving medical practice for personal reasons.
Croteau notes Niagara is falling behind the provincial guidelines for doctor-to-patient ratios.
"The Ministry has some guidelines, loose guidelines, in terms of physician to patient populations. So about 1 doctors for about 1,380 patients. So in that term we are short around 60 doctors."
On the plus side,12 doctors in Niagara are accepting new patients according to the region's website.
