A cooking fire is to blame for destroying a home on Ida Street in St.Catharines.
Damage is pegged at $125,000 after fire on Friday afternoon.
When fire officials arrived they found heavy black smoke spewing from inside the home and located a kitchen fire at the rear of the building.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze quickly, but damage to the home was extensive.
The acting fire chief said the investigation into the fire determined the cause to be unattended cooking involving a pot of oil.
No one was hurt.
The acting fire Chief Jeff McCormick says residents should always stay in the kitchen while cooking, and to make sure you turn off the stove when leaving a room.
A GoFund me account has been set up to help the family who lost their home in the blaze. $1000 has been raised so far.
