A warning from Niagara Regional Police following a near tragedy in Port Colborne.
A group of teenagers was playing on a slow moving train at 9 o'clock last night in the area of Neff Road and Wilhelm Road.
A 14 year old Fort Erie boy was on the train, hanging onto the side when it picked up speed.
The teen was able to call 9-1-1 and the train's engineer was able to safely bring it to a stop.
He was not hurt.
Niagara Regional Police Service and CN Police are reminding the public that trespassing on railway property is not only dangerous, but illegal.
Officials say stopped railway cars can move at any time.
If you witness any unsafe situation near the railway, you are asked to call CN Police at 1-800-465-9239.
Every year in Canada approximately 300 collisions and trespassing incidents occur at highway/railway crossings and along railway tracks resulting in the death or serious injury of nearly 130 people.
Niagara Police are also asking parents to talk to their children about rail safety.
