A 25 year old man has been arrested on child exploitation offences after a joint investigation by OPP, Niagara Regional Police, Canada Border Services Agency and the Department of Homeland Security.
Police say the arrest took place yesterday when the suspect landed at Pearson International Airport on his way home from a trip to the states.
Jonathan Sabovitch-Latour was arrested and charged by the OPP with three counts of luring a child, possession of child pornography, criminal harassment, extortion, making sexually explicit material available to a child and failing to comply with a recognizance.
He remains in custody and will be back in a St.Catharines court March 13th.
Staff Sergeant Sharon Hanlon of the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit says this is a great example of how transient offenders can be and they now these crimes are borderless and this is a fantastic example of teamwork amongst the involved agencies.
She says she has a message for anyone thinking they can sexually exploit children then move on - "You can run but you can't hide. Find a corner you feel safe but understand we are coming in after you and will hold you accountable."
Parents are reminded to take a proactive approach to help protect their children from online sexual exploitation by speaking with their children regarding internet safety.
