A 32 year old man is facing numerous charges following an alleged assault.
Niagara Regional Police were called to a home in the area of Ferry and Main streets around 6:15 p.m. last night following reports of a domestic disturbance.
When officers arrived it was determined a man was inside the home and due to the unstable nature of the incident and the possibility of weapons the Emergency Tactical Unit and the K9 Unit were called in.
A woman had fled the residence prior to the officer's arrival and was taken to hospital for evaluation and treatment.
The scene was held for approximately 5 hours while members of the NRPS Crisis Negotiators Unit negotiated with the man.
Police arrested a man at the scene shortly after midnight without incident.
The male arrested is charged with assault and failing to comply with probation orders.
His name isn't being released to protect the identity of the victim.
The suspect is to appear in court today for a bail hearing.
