If you just swapped out the batteries in a Kidde smoke alarm during the time change, you may need to get back up there take a closer look.
40,000 dual sensor smoke alarms are being recalled because a yellow cap is hindering their ability to detect smoke.
The recall covers two models built between September 10th, 2016 and October 13th, 2017. The front is pill shaped and if you peek through the opening on the side of the alarm, you should be able to see the yellow cap.
The model numbers are PI2010CA and PI9010CA; model numbers and date codes can be found on the back of the unit.
If you own one of the recalled alarms, contact Kidde to learn how to identify the yellow cap and request a free replacement. Only remove your current alarm after receiving and installing a new smoke alarm.
There have been no reports of injuries associated with the recall.
