Layoff notices have been handed out to hundreds of workers at the General Motors transmission factory in St. Catharines.
Unifor says at least 255 of the 350 union workers at the St. Catharines plant will be laid off starting Monday.
G-M Canada says it has made ``production adjustments'' at St. Catharines and at two engine plants in Michigan and Tennessee as a result of the strike.
Parts manufacturer Spencer ARL in Niagara Falls will be idle as of Monday - effecting 180 people.
Vice President of Unifor Local 88, Brent Tree spoke to CKTB's Shelby Knox outside the CAMI plant in Ingersoll today.
Tree says he just got off the phone with union officials in St.Catharines who expressed their support for CAMI workers despite the Niagara layoff news.
Tree wants people to know that striking workers are fighting to save and secure jobs in Canada.
He says they are waiting for a call from GM to get back to the table.
