A reprieve for now for Ontario workers employed by Carillion.

The Canadian branch of the bankrupt British construction company says it has been granted protection from creditors by an Ontario court.

It says it will be business as ususal for its 6,000 workers.

Carillion is contracted by the Ontario government and provides hospital and road maintenance, including snow clearing on our highways.

Last week, the NDP MPP for Niagara Falls wrote the premier to express concern about the bankruptcy.

Wayne Gates says residents in many communities are now left wondering if their roads will be plowed and if their loved ones will get home safe when it snows.

He wants the Premier to end bad privatization deals and bring jobs and services back to Ontario.
