With an ever growing list of crashes involving cars and pedestrians, at least one Toronto city councillor is suggesting a ban on right hand turns on red lights.
Mike Layton is calling for restrictions on the turns in an effort to curb the number of collisions between drivers and pedestrians crossing the road.
Layton notes the decision about 50 years ago to allow the right turns was made to improve gas mileage and had nothing to do with road safety.
Red light right turns account for 13% of pedestrians injuries in the GTA.
