Canadian astronaut David Saint-Jacques is now officially aboard the International Space Station.
Along with a NASA astronaut and a Russian cosmonaut, he took off in a Russian Soyuz spacecraft from Kazakhstan early this morning.
They then successfully docked with the I-S-S, and waited until routine safety checks were made before the hatch was opened, and the three were greeted by the current occupants.
On earth, Sylvain Laporte, head of the Canadian Space Agency told them there was ``a lot of applause and relief'' to see them come out of the hatch.
Saint-Jacques, who is a doctor, will do experiments on the effects of weightlessness on the body, among other things.
He will spend the next six months in space.
