Unifor's National President Jerry Dias joined the picket line at the General Motors CAMI plant today (Sunday) to update members of Local 88 on contract negotiations.
The two sides met in Detroit Thursday.
Dias says a successful conclusion to the talks is vital to the future of the entire community.
Unifor says the obstacle in these negotiations remains job security.
Unifor is seeking a contractual commitment that the General Motors CAMI plant will remain the lead producer of the Chevy Equinox.
The strike has had a ripple effect on workers in Niagara's automotive industry.
255 workers at the GM plant in St. Catharines have been temporarily laid off, along with 180 workers at ARL Spencer in Niagara Falls.
