A rescue on the Welland Canal has earned a Niagara Police officer the Ontario Medal for Police Bravery.
Constable Chris Lindey was presented with the medal last night at Queen's Park, along with a number of other police officers.
It ties back to a rescue in Welland last February when a woman fell through the ice on the Canal trying to rescue her dog.
Constable Lindey slid out over the ice to tie a rope to the woman, but also fell through the ice and into the water.
Both were taken to hospital for treatment but recovered.
The Ontario Medal for Police Bravery is the Province's highest honour in recognizing police officers who's actions demonstrates outstanding courage and bravery.
