Abandoned sharpei puppies now up for adoption with Niagara SPCA

The four puppies were found near the Niagara River on December 28.

The shar-pei puppies that were found abandoned over the holidays are now up for adoption.

The four puppies were found near the Niagara River on December 28.

A fifth was found dead in the water.

The surviving puppies were taken in by the Niagara SPCA and treated as they had body temperatures too low to measure.

Now, all four of the surviving shar-pei are up for adoption.

The SPCA is accepting online applications for the dogs.

They are stressing that it is not a first come first serve process, rather they are looking for the most suitable homes.

Officials are advising those that are interested should have experience with the breed and pet insurance as there are a number of common health concerns with shar-pei.

Adoption applications will be accepted until Monday.

A 63 year old man is facing charges of wilfully causing unnecessary pain and suffering or injury to an animal and killing an animal other than cattle.
