A plan by Welland's Hope Centre to build affordable housing has been shelved for now.
The Centre's new CEO Jon Braithwaite telling the Welland Tribune that prior to his arrival and after a careful review the Board of Directors have determined the gap between actual costs and funding provided would put the organization at risk, jeopardizing the delivery of their other essential services for those in Welland in need.
The 3 million dollar facility would have provided 20 affordable housing units in the city .
The province had agreed to kick in 2.4 million towards the project and the city of Welland pledged another 44 thousand dollars.
But city council deferred a request to waive building permit and site exemption plan fees.
