Alectra Utilities is giving customers a break by extending the moratorium on residential disconnections for non-payment.
Previously, the utility waived late payment charges for past due accounts for homes and small businesses due to the pandemic.
Late payment charges will be applied to residential past due accounts beginning September 1st, 2020, but charges will not be retroactive and only apply to amounts owing from September 1st onward.
Officials also encourage anyone having trouble paying their bills to check out some of their assistance programs, including Low-income Energy Assistance Program, the COVID Energy Assistance Program, and the Ontario Electricity Support Program.
Commercial customers having trouble making payments because of the pandemic are encouraged to reach out to the company to establish a payment plan.
Commercial customers who set up a payment plan will not have their service cut off due to arrears.
