All four rinks will be up and running at the Seymour-Hannah in St.Catharines soon.
The city announcing today that repairs to the rinks’ underground heating and cooling systems are complete and all four will be open by October 2nd.
Concrete pads were poured in late July, and ice installation started the first week of September.
Rink #3 is scheduled to reopen by tomorrow just in time for a local youth hockey tournament.
Kiwanis Rink #2 is scheduled to reopen by Monday, October 2nd.
“We are very excited to have all four ice pads at the Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre back in the game,” said Phil Cristi, acting director of Parks, Recreation, and Culture Services. “This marks the end of a long process upgrading the facility, but this work ensures residents who enjoy skating, hockey and other ice sports have a place that’s top-shelf to get their active on.”
The two ice rinks closed temporarily in the spring so crews could install a separate heating and cooling system under each of the two concrete pads.
Rankin Rink #1 and Rink #4 remained open during construction.
Rink #4 at the Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre was temporarily closed in July 2015 because its concrete pad was heaving due to issues with the underground heating and cooling systems.
The City completed repairs and improvements for Rankin Rink #1 and Rink #4 in 2016 and scheduled similar upgrades to Kiwanis Rink #2 and Rink #3 for this summer.
