Looks like Toronto is out of luck when it comes to hosting the online retail giant Amazon.
A decision on Amazon's second headquarters is expected today.
Amazon announced in September of 2017 plans to build a massive second headquarters in North America, sparking immediate competition from rival cities to attract what could be billions of dollars in investment.
Officials from Toronto, Texas, Maryland and Chicago were among those who said they planned to try to win Amazon's new venture.
Even the Niagara Region put in a bid.
A person familiar with the plans says Amazon will split its second headquarters between Long Island City, New York and Crystal City, Virginia, dashing Toronto's hopes of securing one of the locations.
Mayor John Tory said that Toronto, the only Canadian contender to make the short list, was uniquely positioned to host the online retail giant because of its diversity and comparatively lower business costs.
The company promised 50,000 new jobs with the second headquarters.
