A cottage country mayor says American visitors are being targeted and harassed over fears they could be infected with the novel coronavirus.
Muskoka Lakes Mayor Phil Harding telling CTV News Toronto, "I have heard of a couple incidents where locals have literally accosted people with American licence plates."
Harding believes the Americans, or Canada-U.S. dual citizens, currently in the Muskoka region, have spent the pandemic at their cottage and arrived before the borders closed.
According to Harding, the "unacceptable" behaviour isn’t just limited to people suspected of being American.
He says its also visitors from the GTA adding an Oakville BMW licence plate is not a good thing.
Harding says "vehicles have been keyed."
The mayor calling it unacceptable and "not the Canadian way."
