Local politicians are bending the ears of ministers and policy makers during the Association of Municipalities Ontario Conference
So far, the meetings have been fairly positive according to Regional Chair Alan Caslin.
"I'm really pleased with the results that we heard from, for instance, Minister Del Duca the Minister of Transportation - [Minister Del Duca is] very much on board with not penalizing us with the Gas Tax because we've done the right thing with our buses. Arbitration reform - I can tell you Minister Flynn was listening carefully with what we have to offer and the perspective we brought to the table."
Caslin says they are also making time to meet with both opposition leaders to secure Niagara's place no matter what the outcome of the 2018 election is.
"We want to make sure that no matter who the party is in government that we get what we have started already continued - such as our Go Train, so we can get the Go Train all the way to Niagara Falls by 2021, our 2021 Summer Games, support on our inter-municipal transit system. We want to make sure everything we've already started, that we've put money and resources behind, continues further beyond 2018."
Today Caslin will be discussing the GTA-Niagara Economic corridor.
