The doors to Skyway Animal Hospital in St. Catharines are open this morning, less than a week after its owner, Doctor Mahavir Rekhi, was charged with 16 counts of animal cruelty.
The OSPCA laying 8 indictable counts of causing unnecessary pain or suffering to an animal and 8 indictable counts of failing to provide suitable and adequate care for an animal.
Rehki was charged after the LCHS and OSPCA launched a criminal investigation last September in connection with alleged incidents of abuse in 2013.
The abuse came to light after former staff members released video footage of the doctor choking and hitting animals in his care to the media.
The Ontario College of Veterinarians suspended Rekhi's license last summer after viewing the footage.
Six months later the vet was back in business reopening his Welland Avenue clinic.
Rekhi's digital message sign out front of the clinic promoting his website and listing his pricing.
A survey of several local vets has found Rekhi is charging significantly lower prices.
A wellness check at most vets runs between $88 and $110 dollars, while Rekhi's advertised price is $39 dollars.
